SCALEXTRIC DIGITAL CARS Scalextric Digital cars come in two formats. The earlier digital cars (and still some later ones) have the digital chip permanently installed at the factory, and will run either on a digital track or, without dynamic braking, on an analogue one. If you run a digitalised car on an analogue track alongside unchipped analogue cars, you will probably find the digitalised car is a little bit off the pace compared to the analogue cars, due to having to lift off the power earlier to negotiate the corners. From 2007 the concept of the Digital Plug was introduced for saloon cars, and from 2008 for single seaters as well. The pluggable digital chip goes in to the base of the car and converts an analogue car to digital in under a minute, and back again, if you want to run it in both formats. Some retailers will sell the plug chip already installed in the car, but you do need to make sure you have a "blank" chip module handy to complete the connection to the motor if you want to take the chip out and run it as an analogue car.
